Wrecked indenture
The sprawled mists of raucous water
splay over the ones that plead.
Fear grasps the broad eyes it jets upon
and tears apart progress that rides
these masses abandoned
as waves churn under specks of dawn.
Treasure digresses from loved ones
cherished and recollected
to the moot salvation that forms
when sunrise and companion truths
the dead calm bothers
with cheap promise of the hardly earned
so that each leaves ship to relish
what poverty provided—
slews of common particulars
their failed suffusion the night’s spray abhors.
